Gene's Footnotes

I have never been impressed by the messenger and always inspect the message, which I now understand is not the norm. People prefer to filter out discordant information. As such, I am frequently confronted with, "Where did you hear that...." Well, here you go. If you want an email version, send me an email.

The End of Reason

The lifer out of NASA who invented the groundwork for the global warming scam is now suing to stop peer rejection of his work.

Never mind the math behind it has been disproved by fans of my car destroying the earth, never mind he hides his statistics from review, and never mind he never factored in solar activity,  oh, and never mind the earth is cooling, a religion will have no nay-sayers.  As a recent article points out, Mann is now the Catholic Church trying to stop Galileo from questioning assumed beliefs with math and a bit of science.

Of course, the zealots claim his word is science and opposition is error and, believe it or now, he turns to the courts TO DECIDE UPON SCIENCE.  The country is lost.

Never mind the silly judge is out in September. The mere fact that scientific review is entertained as a violation of free speech is a marker of the end. Don't bother to track it all and argue for a good decision, the insanity is done. The case was not dismissed, get this, because the Mann work and the EPA work is truth and criticism is some sort of evil speech.  Start packing.

Yes sir, the EPA agrees with Mann and, thus, the truth is fixed, albeit incorrect.  The reality of the solar system did not matter to Church (to a degree only) where it found Galileo's work was wrong.  The inquisition COURT made sure the dogma was followed (until the Church figured out how to deal with this new, defensible information).

The Japanese scientific community brushes off our climate religion as "alchemy."  Time to bomb them, I suppose.

It is some consolation that Mann is so concerned over his incompetence being found out he resorts to the courts. I believe he is no longer hiding in NASA, so he has to deal with the real world.

BTW:  New and unedited study shows the "Hockey Stick Disappears."

Mann’s hockey stick disappears – and CRU’s Briffa helps make the MWP live again by pointing out bias in the data

Shock, awe. Untruncated and unspliced data used in a new paper from Briffa and Melvin at UEA restores the Medieval Warm Period while at the same time disappears Mann’s hockey stick. Here’s figure 5 that tells the story:
Figure 5. Temperature reconstructions created using the 650-tree (‘alltrw’ data) TRW chronology (a) and the 130 tree (‘S88G1112’ data) MXD chronology (b). Chronologies were created using two RCS curves and were regressed against the Bottenviken mean May–August monthly temperature over the period 1860 to 2006. The shaded areas show two standard errors (see SI15, available online, for details) plotted either side of the mean where standard errors were scaled to fit the temperature reconstruction. The TRW and MXD temperature reconstructions of (a) and (b) are compared in (c) after they were normalised over the common period 600 to 2008 and smoothed with a 10 year spline. The lower two panels compare the reconstructions using the TRW chronology (d) and MXD chronology (e) with the mean of May to August monthly temperature from Bottenviken over the period 1860 to 2006.
Look at graph 5c, and you’ll see 20th century warmth matches peaks either side of the year 1000, and that for the TRW chronology 20th century warmth is less than the spike around 1750. This puts 20th century (up to 2006 actually) warmth in the category of just another blip. There’s no obvious hockey stick, and the MWP returns, though approximately equal to 20th century warmth rather than being warmer.
Of course, there is also the simple truisim that correlation is not causation, but we are talking to liberals, as they describe stupidity and self-indulgence. I used to be a liberal until the term was stolen by those who want to cover what they are not.
There were few people, droves of farting cows, and no engines during all but a recent blip of history, yet spikes are evident.  Of course, you are asking politicians (i.e. federal judges) to determine science.  Like I say, don't get involved with the whole mess, just know it is time to hide or move.
I like the idea of a virtual monastery where reason and philosophy can be husbanded, along with heirloom seeds. This, of course, requires people who care about the future.  Those who might because they miss the passed will be dead soon, so we need some monks. Most of the people I visit don't see beyond their TV and their sense of history is that there isn't any, just what the TV says.
Say, where is John Galt?
