Gene's Footnotes

I have never been impressed by the messenger and always inspect the message, which I now understand is not the norm. People prefer to filter out discordant information. As such, I am frequently confronted with, "Where did you hear that...." Well, here you go. If you want an email version, send me an email.

Eleven Percent

Rasmussen today:

...A closer look at the numbers reveals that just 11% of voters believe that Congress understands the health care legislation better than they do....
As if Congress cares what the bill says.  They do as they are told.
This item is like the tricky questions in school.
The result doesn't chart if anyone actually understand what it going on, only American are sure they know more than Congress. This is certainly true. There is hope.
On other hand, I haven't seen any discussion of a Constitutional crisis.  This does not provide hope.
If we buy into the ends-analysis over the means- analysis, it is a matter of time before the pusher has an addicted nation who won't care at all what is going on as long as there is a circus to watch.
If we abandon due process and legal structure, then we are happy with the end result.  This leads to theft when the end is deemed good; this theft infects the people, rather than individual goodness prompting government action. We will become a nation of hustlers and black-marketeers.
The  American self-reporting income tax system will be over.  Governments will work diligently to box in its citizens and the ones with assets will leave.
Welcome to Europe.
I predict talk of a 10% federal sales tax on services and goods.  Perhaps, incrementalism will permit it to start at 6%.  This is what is done in Europe and Canada, in addition to income taxes.  But, that is the price you have to pay for an MRI in a 150 days, if approved by the directorate.
