VAT is Unconstituional
I thought I would spit into the wind again.
There is now an invocation of the VAT by the Marxists. VAT mean Value Added Tax, a sales tax. Canada has one in the form of the GST.
If anyone cares Article I, Section 9 of the U.S. Const.:
Don't even bother to debate this. I am sure the radicals will pass something and the usurper will sign it, but it is not constitutional. They will say the VAT is some kind of indirect income tax, more dissembly and insanity.
If you defend the VAT, unlike in most arguments, I question your patriotism. This is not an area where people can disagree. Either you follow the LAW or you are what the Marxists call a useful idiot.
States are not restricted by Article I, they created it to stop a tyrannical central government. So, this misdirection is not even a colorable argument in a democratic opium den. Try this one: "Bush did it!"
Also, Canada does not have our Constitution. In fact, they, sort of, don't have one.
---
All this said, why is you want to pay an additional, what, 7% on your hamburger? Your gasoline? Your cell phone bill?
A VAT also taxes services, so you will add 7% to your ad budget, your tax advisor, your medical payments, you lawyers' billls, and so on.

If anyone cares Article I, Section 9 of the U.S. Const.:
No capitation, or other direct, Tax shall be laid, unless in Proportion to the Census or Enumeration herein before directed to be taken.Well, this meant the income tax was illegal, so the 16th Amendment was ratified:
The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.QED: a VAT is in direct violation of Article I, as extended by Amendment 16.
