Gene's Footnotes

I have never been impressed by the messenger and always inspect the message, which I now understand is not the norm. People prefer to filter out discordant information. As such, I am frequently confronted with, "Where did you hear that...." Well, here you go. If you want an email version, send me an email.

More Slop Think

Just a passing entry. I need to make believe I am working.

I mentioned the National Geographic channel recently and its propaganda regarding its love for the "fact" du jour. It is interesting how a voice over makes points the scientists being interviewed don't make.

Anyway, I think the channels posturing is out of basic stupidity, rather than acting as, say, an Dr. Strangelove arm of the EPA, NASA, or Mr. Obama. I offer this observation: The David Coyote voice tells us there are 8o million gun owners in the U.S. (Americans love guns.)

How did the film maker arrive at this? Take all the guns accounted for and divide by 300,000,000, roughly the number of people in the U.S. There you go, guns per person.

I won't insult you by examining the absurdity of such an analysis.

The problem is this idiocy slides by the buzz-brains watching. We are way past a loss of critical thinking. I don't know how you deal with this, other than write a blog.
