Gene's Footnotes

I have never been impressed by the messenger and always inspect the message, which I now understand is not the norm. People prefer to filter out discordant information. As such, I am frequently confronted with, "Where did you hear that...." Well, here you go. If you want an email version, send me an email.

Still here

Just a letter from Governor Cuomo and my response.

In the same vein, buy the book Reckless Endangerment.  This review of Fannie Mae etc restates all I have been bemoaning for years, herein, only it is written by NYT people.  As we know, the point man for the collapse of the American economy is Andrew Cuomo, who is now pretending to be governor Christie.

This book will be the swift boat book of the next election.

From the Office of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo
This week Governor Cuomo unveiled a historic ethics reform bill that will help bring integrity, accountability, and public confidence back to New York State government.
The Public Integrity Reform Act of 2011 is the tough and aggressive approach we need to usher in a dramatic change in the way our government does business.
The Governor's bill contains the most comprehensive ethics enhancements in modern history. It provides for strict disclosure of outside income by lawmakers, creates a true independent monitor to investigate corruption, and sets new rules that lobbyists must follow.
Click here to learn more about the ethics bill and to watch a video of Governor Cuomo and legislative leaders discussing these important reforms.
By cleaning up Albany, we will begin a new era of transparency and effectiveness in our state and give New Yorkers a government they can believe in.

My response:

What does it say that we need an "historic ethics reform bill"?
It says we have unethical people and we think the way to deal with them is to have them pass laws to control themselves.
This is all silly.  The people have to be responsible for their bad voting habits; there is no governmental solution to government.
