I have never been impressed by the messenger and always inspect the message, which I now understand is not the norm. People prefer to filter out discordant information. As such, I am frequently confronted with, "Where did you hear that...." Well, here you go. If you want an email version, send me an email.

Two Graphs
There is a simplicity to owning stuff that will keep you alive and store your wealth.
Of course, simplicity does not feed money transfer institutions like banks and government. Thus, we are programmed to wallow around in the mud pen of paper money and "investments." Once we are slopping this pen, the farmers can muck around. Like in Vegas, sometimes someone wins and keeps us all slopping around.
Below is a simple graph that shows how the S&P, for our purposes the established stock market, is doing, as defined in the purchasing power of the wealth reflected in the S&P, as determined by including the Consumer Price Index. To put it another way, the actual value of the S&P is the dotted line, when you consider what the wealth therein can buy.
The end-time to the graph is not marked, but it is roughly now.

.
The Real S&P is moving negatively for the thirteen years, yet T.V. will echo how great it is that the stock market is in a rally. The stock market is assumed to be the economy for T.V.watchers. The great delusion, then, is that all is well, so don't worry. However, you instinctively know your purchasing ability is declining. You also know, the dollar is purposely being devalued and will be for years.
The graph shows the same old story: starting in the 1990s, the economy began the internally generated distortion. The market exploded, crashed, exploded, crashed, and now is touted as a great place to invest, apparently, it will never crash again. All that time, the true value of the S&P deteriorates - where is the wealth going? You may want to look to the farmers.
Here is another graph:
This is easily understood. On the left is an analysis of how sectors grew after a recession in the past. On the right, after the 2008 crash profits have jumped, but labor lags. This is because companies figured out how to retain profits through cost-cutting and using efficient techniques, not because employees returned. I didn't include the graph that shows, using 1990s definitions, the unemployment rate is a constant 9.9%. Even the Wall Street Journal will not publish the real numbers and sticks with Obama numbers. No one wants to say the boat is sinking. Just like with the dollar, one can get nice numbers by ignoring history.
What will happen, if not already in the process, businesses will run out of clever things to do. In order to survive, then, they will begin to lay off more people. When the socialist medical plan hits, more people will be put off full time employment, as well as find their insurance premiums doubling.
So, stick to simple. Have a nice parcel of land where the pig farmers don't tax the land so much. Become your own farmer and all the complexity vanishes. Bad times are here, moving slowly, and you don't want to have your money invested in the Cyprus or your 401k.
On the 401k, the farmers are waiting for their chance to take retirement accounts, so consider that risk against the ACTUAL deterioration of your wealth as it sits in stocks. Would you prefer having gold or stock since 2000?
One hears arguments about how gold is not an investment. It is not an investment in the sense of placing money on a roulette table. It is a way to park assets and retain value, unlike investing in your house, the last ponzi scheme. The spot price of gold is down, these days, to around $1,600. Terrible considering that is only a 400% increase in "dollar" value. I should add that, silver is the place to park money, as gold will likely be confiscated again.

Mayor Bloomberg and the Looking Glass
It is the practice of Marxists and socialists to declare their opponents mentally ill and dismiss them, or institutionalize them. (see Frankfurt group at the Marxist Columbia University) So, I will avoid making snide remarks regarding the left and leave any judgment to you. One should not engage in tit-for-tat.
As you recall cognitive dissonance occurs when a person is confronted with a reality that does not fit their preferred world view. In that case, the person never even hears or sees the offending information. You see this when all arguments are rebuffed with,
Bush did it." Keep that in mind.
Next, understand narcissism, which I outlined when Obama was first running and the leading expert in the world in that mental illness noted Obama was clearly a narcissist. From Wikipedia:
Scott Peck once wrote there are two types of mental illness. One where a person takes on responsibility for everything bad and tone where one never assumes responsibility for anything, ever. So, with this in mind, review Mayor Bloomberg's recent comments on TV that Rod sent along:

The man is, as we used to say, "mad."
He says, you are too stupid for your own good and should let "we," the government, tell you what to do. (I guess this act of a madman accepting this must resolve the illness). He does agree we have rights, but they have to be put aside for his edicts on proper living.
He said the Department of Health, now it is not him as the ruling was rejected by the court, had the right to interfere with your rights to purchase a legal substance and the flow commerce. even if the regulation discriminated against the poor, thus, being racist at heart.
He is spending millions in Chicago and Colorado to influence local elections, as the people there are stupid too to be trusted. He wants cigarettes to be hidden from view in a store, lest a child look at them and decide to buy them. This is the MAYOR of the, still, the most important city in the world.
Notice he also clearly states the government is "we." Classical fascist logic (yes, fascism is the right aspect of the current "liberal.") Leftist never agree to be followers, they always see themselves as the "we" that is in charge.
Of course, as the article says, he feels hospitals must hide baby formula lest a mother want to use it. He likes mothers to breast feed. It must please him to see that. I guess if a mother is on crack, it is too bad for the baby.
He knows what is good, you see, coming from Wall Street where, as a partner in Salomon Bothers, he learned to use other people's money and other people. One has to say, though, he was a good chum defending billionaires to the Occupy Wall Street people as being hard working tax payers.
The man should be removed for medical reasons.
Caveat: Not being judgmental about the looney, just saying. The curious thing to remember, he is not crazy if you are a leftist where if you say you don't understand why 33 oz of crappy soda is a crime. immoral, or whatever the justification makes you extreme or ill.

Next, understand narcissism, which I outlined when Obama was first running and the leading expert in the world in that mental illness noted Obama was clearly a narcissist. From Wikipedia:
One could say, Obama's goals were not unrealistic, considering his offensive line and the defensive media line.Symptoms of this disorder, as defined by the DSM-IV-TR include:[1]
- Reacting to criticism with anger, shame, or humiliation
- Taking advantage of others to reach own goals
- Exaggerating own importance, achievements, and talents
- Imagining unrealistic fantasies of success, beauty, power, intelligence, or romance
- Requiring constant attention and positive reinforcement from others
- Becoming jealous easily
- Lacking empathy and disregarding the feelings of others
- Being obsessed with self
- Pursuing mainly selfish goals
- Trouble keeping healthy relationships
- Becoming easily hurt and rejected
- Setting goals that are unrealistic
- Wanting "the best" of everything
- Appearing unemotional
In addition to these symptoms, the person may also display dominance, arrogance, show superiority, and seek power.[6] The symptoms of narcissistic personality disorder can be similar to the traits of individuals with strong self-esteem and confidence; differentiation occurs when the underlying psychological structures of these traits are considered pathological. Narcissists have such an elevated sense of self-worth that they value themselves as inherently better than others. However, they have a fragile self-esteem and cannot handle criticism, and will often try to compensate for this inner fragility by belittling or disparaging others in an attempt to validate their own self-worth. It is this sadistic tendency that is characteristic of narcissism as opposed to other psychological conditions affecting level of self-worth.[7]
Scott Peck once wrote there are two types of mental illness. One where a person takes on responsibility for everything bad and tone where one never assumes responsibility for anything, ever. So, with this in mind, review Mayor Bloomberg's recent comments on TV that Rod sent along:
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said on Sunday: Sometimes government does know best. And in those cases, Americans should just cede their rights.
“I do think there are certain times we should infringe on your freedom,” Mr. Bloomberg said, during an appearance on NBC. He made the statement during discussion of his soda ban — just shot down by the courts — and insistence that his fight to control sugary drink portion sizes in the city would go forth.

“We think the judge was just clearly wrong on this,” he said, on NBC. “Our Department of Health has the legal ability to do this. … [They’re] not banning anything.”
Mr. Bloomberg’s remaining months in office have included a firestorm of regulations and policy pushes on wide range of issues. Aside from the soda size ban and a well-publicized call for tighter gun control, another contentious policy he pushed: Nudging hospitals to lock up baby formula to force mothers to breast-feed newborns.

Get out the back, Jack
Its starting.
Cypress has refused to steal depositors money, for now, and the banking system (also known as the EU) has turned against the country. No time to worry about them. At least they have few people and hills to grow food.
New Zealand, often thought a haven for money is preparing the mechanism to take depositor's money to save the bank. So much for depositors insurance. It is still amazing how asleep people are:

New Zealand, often thought a haven for money is preparing the mechanism to take depositor's money to save the bank. So much for depositors insurance. It is still amazing how asleep people are:
...Open Bank Resolution (OBR) is Finance Minister Bill English’s favoured option dealing with a major bank failure. If a bank fails under OBR, all depositors will have their savings reduced overnight to fund the bank’s bail out. “Bill English is proposing a Cyprus-style solution for managing bank failure here in New Zealand – a solution that will see small depositors lose some of their savings to fund big bank bailouts,” said Green Party Co-leader Dr. Russel Norman.
“The Reserve Bank is in the final stages of implementing a system of managing bank failure called Open Bank Resolution. The scheme will put all bank depositors on the hook for bailing out their bank. “Depositors will overnight have their savings shaved by the amount needed to keep the bank afloat. “While the details are still to be finalised, nearly all depositors will see their savings reduced by the same proportions. “Bill English (Finance minister) is wrong to assume everyday people are able to judge the soundness of their bank. Not even sophisticated investors like Merrill Lynch saw the global financial crisis coming. ...
Do you really think our government does not already have mechanisms in place? They do have 1.6 billion bullets for use at home to back them up. The contract with the bank will be voided by the government and your money will electronically vanish - then devalue.
Get your friends and family secure. Send this around.

Bunker Hill arrives in New York
Resolution quick list
THE FOCAL EVENT
Above is a map showing the progress, as of March 15,2013, probably, of proposals issuing from the legislatures of the counties in New York regarding the recent gun control legislation. The legislation was voted upon without being read and had to have been prepared long before Sandy Hook events, just passing time until there was a media hysteria to cover the passage of the bill. Of course, the bill was poorly written, nonetheless; it even made felons of the police who used 10 round magazines.
The green counties are those who have already passed a resolution opposing the gun confiscation act. I highlight the nearly unanimous opposition outside of the oozing mess of New York City, a home I abandoned in 1979.
This response is, actually, more important than the passage of the offensive law. A line has been crossed and the average person now sees the Constitution is under attack by the leftists. People never respect the government, but now they see the government, rightly, as an enemy worried that the people have the means to protect themselves. The hornets nest, as Greg puts it, has been kicked. The reaction in New York state has national implications.
Blue represents counties that are considering a resolution opposing the act. One can guess Albany county may not oppose, as it is a bastion of government workers, unions, socialists (Working Families Party and Democrats), and welfare recipients. The other counties, one could assume, will oppose.
White counties have not proposed such an opposition. The lone, upstate country in this category is where Cornell is located. Cornell has a long, open history of Marxist and subversive activity imbued with violence, as well as a few good graduate schools. The money from NYC feeds the brand-name school. There are thousands of leftist professors, students, and ex-students who like to hang around and relive the old days. Me, I like the wineries; downtown Ithaca is looking like Schenectady, another Democratic strong hold.
New York City, Long Island, and Westchester have not entertained a resolution. Not long ago, Nassau and Suffolk counties were more rural, hence voted Republican; now, they have been overrun by NYC emigrees. Still, you may see a proposal on Long Island.
Conclusion: the time has come to separate New York State into two states.
The southern tip of people living on top of each other (as Jefferson had it) and who shuffle paper all day while "transferring wealth" to themselves, can have their own state or join up with New Jersey or Greece. They can even keep the name New York as their sports teams already use the name. Or, it could be State of Goldman-Sachs or New Fascisti. Whatever. Who cares?
I am going to organize such a proposal after reviewing the steps as to how one performs an operation to cast off gangrenous limbs. There is no question upstate would leave in a heartbeat. There will be a howling of protest from downstate, as the imprisoned of upstate provide power to the leftist in Washington. It is clear the solid voting bloc of New York City is studious in spreading a "liberal" form of fascism. Old Europe has made deep roots there, like a virulent weed. There is no marriage counseling possible. People who live in open spaces tend to understand freedom and individual responsibility. Cattle go down the chute to their gruel.
If you hear city people threaten us with the loss of revenue, don't argue. I am not even sure that idea survives analysis, but let them think that. On the other side of the separation track is a booming economy, lower taxes, more liberty, and plenty of gas and electricity we can sell to NYC. Unless, the people there, being as smart as they claim, invent subways that run on wind power collected from blades on skyscrapers. Can you imagine an upstate where a person can contemplate opening a new business!
The next trick is to thwart fleeing New Yorkers from moving upstate. You know how ebola spreads. It has to lest it die with its host. Look at how Vermont has become a theme park with tattoo parlors. After 9/11 there was a burst of nasal voiced buyers moving upstate and buying property that, to them, was cheap. Somehow, a wound must be cauterized. Unlike West Germany, we cannot and are not interested in welcoming refugees.
Anyway, talk up a divorce.

Rifle murder rate in Chicago: .98%
Below is a chart comparing murders in Chicago vs. deaths in the war in Afghanistan. The chart is misleading, really, in using the term "murders" where there is a shooting war afoot. By the way, the war is still going on. You not be aware of that as President Obama personally killed Bin Laden, who was watching TV, and there is no coverage anymore. The daily roll of killed Americans no longer plays after network and PBS news programs with Taps as a sound track; there is no point to it since a Democrat (using the archaic term) is in charge of the pointless killing. We all know only Republicans are responsible for bad things, so why waste valuable spin time on the news.
Of the murders in Chicago, reflected below, 98% were committed by hand guns, so it is clear, now, why the Democrats want to stop the use of semi-automatic rifles. Clearly, they are worthless when killing fellow citizens; even the shooter at Sandy Hook left the rifle in the car, contrary to what you heard on TV. Hence, we understand why we must control these not-really-assault weapons.
The only purpose to having a a semi automatic rifle, then, is to hunt and protect yourself from tyrants and invaders, if there is a difference. The government cannot allow serfs to be armed.
In the numbers for Chicago are 37 victims of a rifle. Thus, the number of murders in Chicago caused by a rifle, of all types, is .0087 of the entire murder statistic.
Those murdered by a knife was 9% so clearly when people get married, they must have a background check if they receive cutlery as a gift. Indeed, how is it anyone can just buy a knife and give it to young people? Time to act!
By the way, there were more people strangled, at 92, than killed with a rifle. I suppose we could require people to wear handcuffs when out of the house. Ok, so there are no easy answers to all problems. At least, we can tax fingers.
I suggest sending this around.
Thanks Rod

Yes, I am still distracted. I think it is more depression into ennui, actually, and have come to appreciate Marvin the Robot.
So, in the meantime, for your viewing hysteria, let me relate to boring data that still proves the current weather hysteria is just that and the the U.S. ain't so bad, at least, regarding CO2.:
The Kyoto Protocol, which the U.S. did not sign, established caps to reduce CO2 in phases. The first phase was 2008 to 2012. The profligate Americans failed to burn more fossil fuels and there has been a significant downward trent in CO2 production. Still, we are bad boys for not becoming controlled by zealots.
Here is a bit from a recent NYT article:
...Over all, global emissions jumped 3 percent in 2011 and are expected to jump 2.6 percent in 2012, researchers reported in two papers released by scientific journals on Sunday. It has become routine to set new emissions records each year, although the global economic crisis led to a brief decline in 2009.
The level of carbon dioxide, the most important heat-trapping gas in the atmosphere, has increased about 41 percent since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, and scientists fear it could double or triple before emissions are brought under control. The temperature of the planet has already increased about 1.5 degrees Fahrenheit since 1850.
Further increases in carbon dioxide are likely to have a profound effect on climate, scientists say, leading to higher seas and greater coastal flooding, more intense weather disasters like droughts and heat waves, and an extreme acidification of the ocean. Many experts believe the effects are already being seen, but they are projected to worsen...
So if the world production jumped 3 percent, but the U.S., the big giant hog as true believers have it, decreased, that means the righteous world is having a blast, so to speak. This only goes to the BS level of our eco friends, the people who fly their jets to around the world to discuss the rise in CO2.
Note a few things from the Times spin. The appearance of all the cognitive dissonance fit to print is always interesting. I wanted to point out the "science" the Times is all distressed over, so I underlined a few items for you to consider.
OK, it is more than a few items. Unknown scientists have many inklings in unnamed journals, according to the Times. And with no attribution, we are being flooded out because of CO2. I have seen cartoons proving this as Al Gore said it would. In a high school this gibberish would be declaimed for any subject matter other than the politically correct fads.
The problem is CO2 does not correlate to temperature during the history of the earth; though unnamed icentists find their statistics for the years 1990 through 2000 show a correlation that proves otherwise (which is impossible logic as correlations prove nothing). Actually, there is no correlation:
Indeed, the CO2 levels INCREASE after warming periods, which actually can be related to a causative assumption: more plants increases CO2. This is a "duh.." The graph below demonstrates CO2 follows warming. It also shows that there has been a recent spike, assuming valid (not politically correct) data. in recent years of CO2 particulates that would be a matter to study.
However, it is NOT the cause of the non-existant warming.
Just to make this clear, if CO2 causes warming, then the red line must precede the blue one. Rather, is follows closely behind. Also, Notice the current temperature has not topped the warm periods over the last 450,000 years. That seems like a good comparison. However, the recent warmth has been stubborn around the baseline, for many years. This would cause more plants; however, the "Industrial Age" does produce CO2.
But who cares, right?
